A New Hope

Swimming

Swimming first became a part of the Sports Union (then Athletics Club) in 1888. Since then it has continued to go from strength to strength, developing premier level athletes as well as catering to more recreational members. It is one of the Universty’s most popular and successful clubs, with membership sitting at 150 and recipient of the Lilly White Shield (Club of the Year) in 2013, 2014, and 2015. Today there are two pathways for members; club and performance. The team is based at St. Leonard’s.

Club Squad

Swimmers who are looking for recreational swimming in a challenging, organized team environment should join club. The team meets twice a week, once on Monday 2030-2130 and Saturday 0900-1100. We do not teach swimming and can only accept members who can swim competently. We expect club members to be able to swim 5x100 on a 1:45 base.

Performance Squad

Performance is for serious athletes who wish to continue their development to compete nationally and internationally. Started in 2008 by Coach Jones, the programme has grown to be on the best university teams in the UK. Current members include BUCS Champions, Commonwealth Games finalists and medalists, and Olympians. Admission is at the discretion of the coaches. If you are interested please email swimming@ed.ac.uk with times.
