9/10/13 1sts vs Heriot Watt

Last Wednesday was, for most sports teams across the country, the first fixture of the BUCS season; this was certainly the case for the Edinburgh University Swimming First team. Their first opponents of the year were local rivals Heriot Watt University. As this fixture was cancelled last year, the team was anxious as to the strength that they would be up against. The women’s team came up against strong opposition in Kathryn Johnstone, Commonwealth hopeful from Heriot Watt; but Edinburgh managed to overcome this threat with help from Sian Morgan and Andrea Strachan, two of four Performance Swimmers in attendance.

Heriot Watt seemed to have more depth in their men’s team but with good performances from Nick Quinn and Jack Thorpe, the remaining two Performance swimmers and excellent sprints from Captain Jack Holroyd and Masters Student Billy Purnell, the team enjoyed an impressive win overall. The final score 159-97 in favour of Edinburgh, putting the team in a great place in their quest for yet another unbeaten season.
