6/11/2013 Men's and Women's firsts matches

Wednesday the 6th Nov proved to be a double victory for the Edinburgh Men’s and Women’s Water Polo 1sts. The evening started off with the Men’s 1sts playing Liverpool in a rough match that included lots of kick outs. Liverpool came to the pool with only one sub, and by the end of the first quarter they had one player excluded three times, and therefore unable to play the rest of the match. With the Liverpool team slowly becoming tired, and the Edinburgh goalie, Bojan Doneveski, showing everyone why his nickname is ‘the Iron Curtain’, the Edinburgh victory was in sight throughout the whole match, ending with a final score of 16-4. Riding on the high spirits after the men’s match, the Women’s 1sts played Newcastle aiming to repeat their last win against St Andrew’s. The expected result, however, did not seem guaranteed when the score at the end of the first quarter was 2-1 to Edinburgh. Scottish Junior International, Louise Fox, playing incredibly and quickly scored in succession to make the half time score 6-3. After Jenn Davis was kicked out for the third time, and therefore could take no further part in the match, Newcastle tied up the score making this an edge-of-the-seat affair. The worry was over when the match ended with a final score of 10-7, and a very tired but relieved Edinburgh team. The evening ended with the Women’s 1sts in 3rd place in the BUCS Premier League table, with a game in hand, and the Men’s 1sts in first place.
