BUCs Gatorade Nationals Friday 21/02/14

It was a gentle start to the weekend at the swimming, with only relay teams and distance events being swum. British Triathlete and IPP athlete Ellen McArthur raced in the 800m Freestyle and finished a solid 16th in a time of 10.06.42, however due to a number of guest entrants will get 14th position points for the team.

Next up were the heats of the men’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay. Our men swam a good race, with safe changeovers, to ensure they had no problems getting into the final. Fast split times from lead-off Jack Thorpe and anchor Richie Shafers helped the team through in 4th place, they will be hoping to better that result and push for a medal in tomorrow nights final.

The final swim of the night saw the women take to the pool for the 4x100m Freestyle relay. Our women’s team are the current Scottish Club Record holders in this event and put in a strong heat performance tonight. An excellent anchor leg from 3-time Olympian Caitlin McClatchey helped the girls safely into the final ranked 1st. We will be in for a tough fight with Loughborough tomorrow to secure that gold medal but the girls have put themselves in a great position.
