BUCS Gatorade Nationals Saturday 22/02/14

After many strong heat swims this morning our swimmers definitely picked up the pace in the finals session tonight. First up was the 200m Freestyle events for women and men. Olympian Caitlin McClatchy picked up a Bronze medal in what was a very close race, in the mens event Matt Parks came in ninth.

There were also a few medals picked up in the Breaststroke events for both men and women. Andrea Strachan won a Silver medal in the women’s 50m Breaststroke, while Nick Quinn and Calum Tait placed 7th and 9th. Later on in the evening Liv White and Calum Tait picked up Silver medals in the women’s and men’s 200m Breaststroke finals respectively.

In the 50m freestyle events Andrea Strachan finished 8th in her second final of the night, while Richie Schafers picked up a Bronze medal in the tightly contested men’s final and Jack Thorpe placed 6th.

Fresher Emily Jones kept the medals coming for Edinburgh claiming silver in the women’s 100m Butterfly, while Jenn Davis finished in 8th after a busy day of racing.

The final events of the night were the 4x100m Freestyle relays and these did not disappoint. The women had an extremely tight race for the gold medal and just missed out to Loughborough, meaning the Edinburgh team finished in Silver medal position. The men’s race was also a hard-fought contest, with our men winning a Bronze medal.

So after two days of racing our swimmers are currently in 4th place in the team points competition and will be hoping to push on tomorrow with even more medal winning performances.
